Sliding Board Systems: The Smart Classroom Upgrade, Explained
One wall, two jobs. How sliding shutter boards let a classroom keep its full writing surface and its projector screen — with real-world sizing advice.
The problem sliding systems actually solve
Modern classrooms need two things on the same front wall: a writing board and a projection surface. Fixed boards force a choice — cover the screen permanently, or lose half the board. Sliding shutter systems end the compromise with panels that glide sideways on tracks.
In a single-shutter system, one board panel slides to reveal a screen (or a second board) behind it. In a double-shutter system, two panels park at the sides, giving up to four usable writing surfaces across the wall.
Sizing and surfaces
Sliding systems are always custom-built to the wall. Measure the full wall width and the height available above the dado or desk line — we build from 6 ft walls up to full lecture-hall widths. The track adds a few inches at the top, which is why an exact site measurement matters more than a rough guess.
Surfaces are your choice: magnetic whiteboard, greenboard, or ceramic on either side. The most popular combination for smart classes is a ceramic whiteboard shutter over a ceramic greenboard rear — marker work on the front, chalk work behind, projector in the middle.
What to ask before ordering
Ask about the track mechanism — ball-bearing tracks with bottom guides are the only kind that survive years of daily sliding without sagging or jamming. Ask about panel weight: ceramic panels are heavy, and the track must be rated for them.
Finally, plan the electricals with the board, not after it. Projector mount position, screen drop and switch points all interact with the sliding track. Share your wall photo and measurements with us, and we will mark the layout before building anything.
