Most corridor boards are wallpaper students walk past. Here is how schools turn pin-up boards into places students actually stop.
Give every board a single job
The boards nobody reads are the ones carrying everything — circulars, photos, old exam timetables and a faded anti-tobacco poster from 2019. Boards that work have one job each: a "This Week" board, an achievements board, a house-points board, a subject corner.
One job means one audience and one reason to stop. A student glances at "This Week" daily because it changes daily. A general board changes so rarely that students stop checking.
Design for a walking reader
Corridor readers are moving. Headlines should be readable from three metres — big, bold, few words. Put the new material at eye level between 4 and 5.5 feet, and keep the bottom third for younger classes’ content where small eyes can reach it.
Colour-code with purpose: one paper colour per category (yellow for events, blue for exams, pink for achievements) trains students to scan for what matters to them. Velvet boards in deep colours make white notices pop beautifully.
Make students the publishers
The most-read boards in any school are the ones students contribute to. A rotating class responsibility — Class VII-A owns the board this month — guarantees fresh content and an audience of fifty students who check whether their work went up.
